Position: Bartender ("Tapster")
Compensation: $16.99/hr plus tips, averages between $35-$50/hr pre-tax
Hours: Variable. Nights and Weekend Availability Required
Black Hammer Brewing Company is hiring bartenders ("tapsters") to join the team at our craft brewery in SoMa, SF. We are an established, unique award-winning microbrewery, and have been brewing beer in SF since 2015. This is a great opportunity to join a funky, fun and local brewery and to bring your expertise into the world of craft beer while learning everything you can possibly want to about craft beer.
Our ideal candidate will play an integral role in ensuring our guests have exceptional experiences at our brewery. You should be passionate about craft beer and helping customers, and thoroughly enjoy creating excellent experiences for our guests. The ideal candidate will have a friendly, outgoing disposition, and previous experience working as a Tapster/bartender in the beer industry.
Required Qualifications & Abilities

A love for craft beer is mandatory for this position, and you should have a working knowledge about beer styles, ingredients, and flavors.

Minimum 1 year serving/bartending experience preferred

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

Assist customers in their beer selections by effectively communicating information about our beer styles and brewing ingredients (hops, malts, yeast)

Anticipate guests' service needs, including asking questions of guests to better understand their needs and watching/listening to guest preferences and acting on them whenever possible

Bar Service

Memorize our food and beverage menus and make recommendations to our guests.

Serve pours in accordance with our quality standards.

Operate and troubleshoot draft equipment and move and change kegs as necessary

Maintain cleanliness and organization of bar area and parklet.

Open and close the tasting room per our operating procedures.

Assist during private events and special releases as necessary
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Reports to: Head Brewer
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Compensation: TBD based on experience, but expect somewhere between $18-24/hr plus PTO and benefits
Hours: Full time or Part Time
Benefits: Black Hammer benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid time off, paid holidays and free beer!
The candidate should expect to work roughly 40 hours per week for Full Time, with slightly more or less as required. This position is paid hourly and is supervised by the Head Brewer. Part Time hours are negotiable.
We’re looking for a bright, self-starting hard-working cellar person. This can be either an entry-level position or experienced role - if you want to get your foot in the door of the brewing industry or to hone your skills, this job is for you. A cheerful disposition is an absolute requirement, we are a fun, spirited and close-knit brewery, and we truly love what we do so you should, too.
This position offers the opportunity to grow your knowledge of and experience in the wholesale arena of the craft beer industry, while you also gain production experience on the brewery floor, especially with our new canning robot set to arrive in September (Twin Monkeys 3-head).
We are actively expanding our wholesale business and working on our brewery expansion, so the right candidate will be someone who wants to grow with our company.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fulfill orders from our ERP system for our customers and distributor.
- Assist with operation of our new canning line
- Availability to fill in for occasional bartending shifts is a huge plus
- Deliver kegs and case beer to our restaurant and clientele and move beer to and from off-site cold storage
- Clean, sanitize and pressurize kegs to prepare for filling
- Fill kegs with fresh beer
- Clean lines at our brewery, restaurant, and wholesale accounts
- Load and unload delivery van with packaged beer assigned to accounts
- Collect empty kegs and properly record and apply credits
- Provide excellent customer service
- Keep delivery van clean inside and out
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment which allows us to work efficiently and produce great beer in an environment with minimal stress
- Assist in the cleaning of the cellar areas and the washing of equipment, floors and tools to comply with company and government sanitation standards
- Attention to detail and meticulous attention to record keeping are required
- General brewery cleaning and maintenance tasks
Physical Requirements:
- Consistently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 70 pounds to chest height
- Ability to handle product generally weighing up to 140 pounds (We use 50L kegs, so they're about 30# lighter than half barrels).
- Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling and reaching
- Must be able to stand for the entire shift, up to ten hours
- Consistently able to use repetitive hand and wrist motion
- Work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment and materials
- Valid California Drivers License with clean driving record required
